I've made my fair share of resolutions at New Year. I decided a few years ago enough is enough. I won't make silly resolutions that I am not totally committed to keeping. But then last year I made one final resolution that has had a huge impact on my wardrobe and my sense of style. Here's what I suggest.... Promise yourself to never buy another item of clothing that you don't absolutely love.
Seems self explanatory right? Sure. I mean no one knowingly buys something they hate to add to their wardrobe, right? And yet when you are standing in the store for some retail therapy or with a couple dollars burning a hole in your pocket sometimes the desire to just get something new overwhelms your fashion sense. Sticking to this resolution can mean the difference between one more basic v-neck sweater and a great new uniquely buttoned sweater that is a fashion must-have. It means the difference between another pair of black shoes and one of the new brightly colored patent ones.
So every time you go to purchase something new ask yourself, 'Am I totally in love with this? Do I want to see this in my closet every time I open the door? Do I have something just like this already?' If your answers are 'yes, yes, and no,' then go for the kill. If you're not sure about it or just sorta love it, walk away and find something you do love.
With this resolution it's the difference between these two looks on a daily basis.... (and don't get me wrong: it's not that the second is ugly and frumpy but it's so-so)

I get your point and totally agree about only buying what you love BUT those are bad examples as the Forever 21 outfit looks super cheap and like the seams would come out after one wash. Just sayin'.
But I should have added this to my list. Except second-hand items, because I think that's actually the most responsible way to try new styles. ;)
