Two Trends You Gotta Try - And One Maybe You Shouldn't

Trendcentral is calling out three new trends I am at least 2/3 of the way jazzed about.

First is Egyptian.  Put away this summer's feathers, fringe and turquoise and get ready for Cleopatra bangs, winged liner and blunt cuts.  Trendcentral especially notes to keep watch for  hieroglyphic prints, King Tut imagery, and ancient mummy graphics, as well as dark kohl-lined eyes paired with piles of gold jewelry.
Why I love this: I am ALL OVER Cleopatra bangs.

Next: Pegged jeans.  Yes, the kind Katie Holmes has been seen all over town in.  Trendcentral is calling these the new skinny jeans.  Created by two stylists, new denim brand of the moment Current/Elliott--whose signature look is a slouchy boyfriend style--is selling out after being featured in Vogue, while J. Crew's Distressed Vintage jeans are topping fall fashion must-have lists.
Why I love this: Dunno if I'll be pegging these babies, but I lived in men's jeans from the GAP in high school before graduating and upgrading to boyfriend cut jeans.  It's a little grunge, but let's be honest - won't it feel good to wear comfy jeans after 3 years of skinnies?
Psst!  Would you wear this?  Take the quiz!

Finally, Oxford buttondowns are the new deep v-neck tees. Just in time for back-to-school, American Apparel recently introduced some pretty classy oxford buttondowns - quite a departure from their ubiquitous tight, skinbaring styles. We've been noticing stylesetters sporting these vintage prep staples recently, and since AA tends to set trends in streetwear, we expect this will be no exception.  But unless you're a Yale grad from Boston, this look is fugly through and through.

Have to agree with janine about the pegged puffy jeans. I wore them in HS and looking at the pics now I see that it made my legs look extra short and squat. Maybe I'd wear them if I looked like K. Holmes, but then again, I don't think that they really flatter her either. Still love my bootcuts best.

I think we need to see photos of the button-downs you are referring to, although I can't imagine how anything could be uglier or less flattering than pegged jeans. I'll roll up the bottoms of my skinnies for a punk sorta look, but the puff pants are not OK in my opinion. If anyone pulls off this look, however, I'm interested in seeing it!
