Unlike the neons of Summer '08, 2009's hot pink is more jewel-tone than day-glo. Play light and flirty with natural makeup, or use a dark, smokey eye (above) for a look that's pretty and sophisticated. Can't wait for Spring? Pop some of this color on your toes.

Some trends take more than one year to catch on, and florals are a great example, pulling strong for yet another season. Spring 2009 is all about flowered dresses and even mini skirts as seen by Deulass above. One of my favorite pieces, the floral print mini is hip and unexpected. Smaller flower prints are more slimming than large prints, and a slightly abstract design will keep you looking fresh. Pastels are also trendy for Spring, but aim for structured pieces rather than the obvious choice of feminine ruffles.
With chain and overlapping necklaces, this is a trend I've already touched on for Fall, but spring will be less delicate metals and more chunky geometric pieces. Think the huge necklaces Samantha is often seen in on Sex and the City, paired with crisp spring outfits. Statement necklaces are also big for the Spring season, so find something huge, clunky and quirky that speaks to your personality.

Contrasting prints, such as polka dots paired with stripes, are big for Spring, as are tribal-inspired bold prints. These flares with contrasting tie belt just scream Spring Break. I will be looking for a pair like the ones below to wear with a black wifebeater and some giant earrings.

Greek-inspired dresses are all over Fashion Week runways for Spring and Summer. Off-the-shoulder dresses (often belted or with empire waists) are paired with basic sandals. Colors range from creamy neutrals and pastels to highly saturated exotic-inspired hues. Make this look modern by incorporating a belt with lots of studs or other hardware, as seen above.
All That GlittersThe 2009 sequins trend isn't about prom dress level sequins, but instead a lighter sprinkling in small doses - the hem of a skirt or top, for instance. If you want to wear a big blinging block of sequins, go ahead, but contain it to something small, like a short-sleeved cropped jacket or shrug or a vintage-inspired headpiece.
No, neon leggings and off-the-shoulder sweatshirts aren't back around again. Spring '09 '80s style refers to what My Fashion Life describes as "retro body-con, corsets and tutus, and Miami sunset colours, surf-tee prints, and power dressing." Shoulder pads, big hair, and huge earrings are up to you.
