Summer in November: Tips to Brighten Up Your Winter Style

You’re familiar with the concept of ‘Christmas in July,’ right? Well today I’m providing ideas to channel the summertime right back into your life, in what can be a real time of need, November.

Now while November brings Thanksgiving and the opportunity to wear sweaters and boots (fab things), it also brings the whole ‘set your clock back’ debacle (which I loathe because it gets dark at 6 pm and makes me feel like I should hunker down in my house and that the day is freakin’ over before I got the chance to get enough done) and every four years it brings Presidential campaigns and the election (which is fine and I think everyone should vote and be proud that they did so but the hideous campaigning is really wearing on me as years go by and I am really sick to death of politics as we know it, on all sides of each and every aisle). So, that being said, I’m set to bring the cheery joy of summer back to put a smile on all your lovely faces.

If you’re into it, get yourself a fake tan.

I really like these self-tanning products by Bare Escentuals Faux Tan, Xen Tan and Mystic Tan. I’ve tried many self tanners over the years and these 3 give a realistic looking color and all are fairly fast drying. For me it is really fun to have a little color in the dead of winter. I love taking a scalding hot bubble bath with some luscious product (I know that is not advised, and harsh for the skin, blah blah blah…but I do it all the time and am the queen of body butter and such so my skin doesn’t hate me) and coming out all warm and TAN!! Yahoo! Then I put on cuddly pj’s and I am just in heaven!

Paint your toenails a bright color.

Another thing I dig is when it’s cold out and I have a summery polish color on my toes. This is great for sitting by the fire barefoot and a nice yellow or bright pink is unexpected and fun, fun, fun. It is so quick and easy to whip out a polish job with these nail pens, too. I used one for the first time today and it was wonderful! (More on that later this week.)

Rock some open-toed shoes.

Some of you probably live in places where it doesn’t get cold enough that you ever have to put away your open-toed shoes. Here in Atlanta the weather is weird and we have been having milder winters but still good for boot wearing. This time of year it can go either way; one day I’m in my boots and the next day it’s 70 degrees and I’m sporting these stylish and comfortable Ocean Minded sandals. I recommend you check out this company.

Don’t abandon your maxi dress.

You can still wear your festive maxi dress, just layer a tank or long sleeved t-shirt under it and top it with any of these cozy cardigan sweaters. A skinny belt up on your waist or a low slung number (I love a cardigan with a low riding stud belt…sexy and chic) look hot over the cardigan and will keep you warm on chilly nights. Rock some tall boots or some ‘of the moment’ booties to complete your look.

Just because it’s cold outside, summer fun doesn’t have to escape you. So turn up the heat or light a fire, blend up a nice icy pitcher of margaritas, and surf the net for all those swimsuit sales. Now’s the time to get a great deal!!
