This year's hippie look is even more fun than modern boho styles of the past, focusing less on earth tones and more on the spring 2009 trend of crisp blocks of color and bold hues. Brown is replaced by gold and instead of tie-dye, large abstract floral prints and ethnic-inspired designs as seen above. Hippie flow is given an edge with belts and bands that give the whimsically-cut pieces more structure and visual interest.

I love headbands, and the geometric headband below gives the bohemian look a more purposeful, almost avantgarde effect. For Spring '09, ditch the delicate headpiece for a thicker band. A smoky but colorful eye completes a look that juxtaposes organic style with glamorous over-abundance.

Additional details such as beading and sequins also help add a glamorous feel to tried and true bohu cuts. The color for Spring/Summer is hot pink, a color that's fierce and ultra feminine splashed across a tunic. Cinch with a studded belt at the smallest part of your waist for a look that's figure-flattering and instantly put-together.

How-to work the Rich Hippie look for Fall/Winter: Before Christmas, swap the pink with red for a look that's hippie-festive. Pull tunics and flowy dresses over black lace tights and pair with heeled ankle boots. Top with a fabulous piece of fur. Economy be damned - fake it 'til you make it!
