Dress Season: Favorite Party Dress Picks on a Budget

With the holidays quickly approaching our calendars are filling up with parties. And if you’re like most normal women, you’ve got nothing to wear! As usual at this time of year we are meant to sparkle, shimmer and shine. This works for both your makeup and your attire. So break out the diamond studs and the glitter-filled eyeshadow.

Here are my party picks for the dress season:

Ann Taylor Knot Front Charmeuse Dress $189.

This dress is perfect for anyone who has a little more stomach than desired. The twisting near the chest allows the rest of the dress to flow and hide a number of flaws. And the knot is flattering on nearly every body type.

The Limited Seamed Front Tube Dress $79.50

I’m a sucker for bright pink, but this has such an interesting seam pattern on the front that it is a show stopper, even without the fun pink color. Pair it with a simple pashmina or cropped sweater for a little more warmth. (and it is not the weird floral stuff the Limited was showing last month!)

Express The Embellished Maxi Dress $148.00

If you rocked this look all summer long and loved it, now you can work it for the holidays too. Looks like Spanx are going to be a must with this clingy material, but the length is perfect for any black-tie affair you’ve got.

Express Ruffle Bottom Tank Dress $98.00
This little black dress, with the plethora of ruffles below and the basic top, is adorable and it looks totally comfortable; something you could stay in all night and not think twice about.

Banana Republic Silk Halter Dress $150.00

This purple dress is a great party dress for almost any occasion. It comes in pink too. (Although I wouldn’t wear the dress with the nude pumps the model has on. UGH!)

New York & Company City Style Velvet Dress $59.95

What says "oliday" more than velvet? This red tinted dress is a throw-on and go outfit. You aren’t going to have to worry much about accenting it. Just throw a necklace on and your favorite black heels - DONE.

Target.com Tiered Tank Dress $29.99

Ruffles of all sorts are still in style for the holiday season. This is the perfect opportunity to rock this look if you have been unsure about your ability to pull if off. The holidays are always a time to be more creative with your outfit choices.

Target.com Strapless Bubble Dress $39.99

This subtle bubble dress is adorable. The silver color is great for any event on your calendar and you can pair it with a funky pair of shoes or some really colorful accessories.

Dillards Max and Cleo Shirtdress $138.00

I’m a little obsessed with dresses that look like two pieces but are actually one. It’s a great idea because it gets rid of all the horrible material bumps that are inevitable if you work a shirt tucked into a high waisted shirt. This is just cute and practical.

Dillards Tahari by ASL Belted Crepe Dress $138.00

Holiday = Red. This is simple, basic and red - win, win, win.

I think that the Tahari by ASL Belted Crepe Dress is pretty stand-out.

Not everyone can do the crazy stand-out dresses. I was aiming for the more classic, can work at any party even your business function type of dresses.

As someone who is very familiar with Express' clothes (i work there), i've got to say both the dresses mentioned are not only comfortable, but they are also both look stunning. I even started calling the short one the sex and the city dress because it's totally that kind of piece.

I like that these are all price points, but those dresses are pretty boring. I'd rather get something more stand-out and eccentric or just do a basic black dress with major accessories.
