Disappears like Magic!: Remedies to Remove Cosmetics from Clothing

Okay, so we're all a little DIY by nature, as I'm sure you've noticed from the various posts on this website about at-home face masks, hair treatments, acne removal, and anything else the day comes at us with.  But did you know there are some items in your kitchen that you can turn into multi-taskers in the laundry room?

Regardless of whether I'm droppin' big money or mere pennies on my latest have-to-have item, I want it to look good for as long as I own it.  Over time I've picked up a few tips and tricks that will help you out when conventional methods just don't work. Here are my faves:

  • Coca-Cola: Got a grease stain on your clothing? Throw some cola on it. It helps get oil-based stains out, such as concealer, foundation, and cream eyeshadows.

  • Salt: Throw a few tablespoons in the wash to keep your black clothing from fading. I've also heard it prevents colors from running.

  • Vinegar:  Not only can it can boost your hair's natural shine, this stuff also works as a natural fabric softener, brightens your clothing, and gets deodorant stains out. Loves it!

  • Baking Soda: Helps get that icky "sweat" smell out of clothes (ladies, school your boyfriends!), can aid in getting crayon stains and cream eyeshadow stains out, and also makes your whites whiter.

  • Peroxide: Gets blood out. Need I say more?

  • Hair Spray: Use it on your nylons/panty hose/sexy fishnets to strengthen them before wear. Also, if you're trying to get glitter off your clothes, treat with hairspray before you wash 'em, as it will keep the glitter in its place and therefore be easier for your washing machine to attack it.

  • Petroleum Jelly: Lipstick on your collar (or anywhere else)? Put some Vaseline on it, throw it in the wash. It's like it was never there to begin with.

What do you guys think? Ever tried any of these? Or do you have any other quick fixes for keeping clothes looking hotter longer?

I used to get that stuff on my clothes when I was little, and my mother used liquid dish soap (not dishwasher soap, the stuff you use to hand wash) to get it out. It's worth trying. It at least won't fade the color. Good luck!

Epsom salt or saline solution is also good for getting blood out. Apply salt or saline solution directly to the stain, gently rub, soak in cold water, rinse, and viola. Depending on the garment, you can then throw it in the regular wash.
