Cool Polka Dots for Spring 2009

Pretty and Optimistic Polka Dots Trend Spring 2009

Fashion is all about extremes, and an extreme reaction to recession talk and fashionistas dressed all in black is bold prints like polka dots.  Polka dots are a big trend for Spring '09, a retro throwback that will be perfect for warming weather and drums up visions of vintage swimsuits and ritzy yacht clubs.

How to Rock It

Polka Dots Trend 2009

To avoid looking too cutesy, avoid colorful prints with a black or white background.  The inverse (black or white polka dots on a color) is more chic. There are no hard and fast rules, but more sophisticated colors will keep the print from coming off juvenile.  Nautical colors - black, white, cream, red, blue - are grown up and classic.  Try mix and matching prints (see left) to break things up.

Keep things cool with simple accessories - perhaps a chunky sandal and bold wayfarer sunnies.

You could also slip into some polka dotted accessories to give a neutral outfit a pop.  A polka-dot flat is fun and practical, and your guy will love these polka dotted DC skate shoes.  A polka-dotted scarf is another timeless way to work this trend into your wardrobe.
