Black Lace - The It Fabric For Fall

If you think that lace is a fabric that should be reserved for senior citizens, think again.

As seen in fall collections and all over the fall runways - from Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Nanette Lepore, and Rebecca Taylor - black lace is the It Fabric for fall.

Lace is one fabric that has been in need of a comeback for some time. All too often it's associated with either vintage pieces or your Grandmother's closet instead of being recognized as the incredibly versatile and fun fabric that it really is. Lace can easily turn a plain piece into something fancy and can add feminine touches to an otherwise overly edgy piece. Black lace finds the perfect balance between the two.

Some of the hottest looks featuring black lace are dresses, blouses, and leggings. It's also showing up on handbags, necklaces, shoes, and other accessories as well.

Some of the hottest black lace dresses are short and flirtatious (everything that you don't expect when you think of a lace dress). Pictured above are lace dresses by Rebecca Taylor, Foley + Corinna, and Nanette Lepore (pictured at the top of the article). These lace dresses are sure to be copied by lower end stores later in the season, but if you can afford it, add them to your wardrobe now. The Foley + Corrina lace dress is a great option for those of you who aren't completely sure if the black lace trend is your style.

What's great about the black lace blouses that are out this fall is that they can be worn with anything. They are versatile enough to be your key statement piece or to be layered over and under other items to simply add texture. Wear them with skirts, slacks, jeans... the possibilities are endless. Pictured above are blouses by Marc by Marc Jacobs and Zimmermann.

Another way to incorporate black lace into your wardrobe is through accessories. It's showing up on jewelry, hair accessories, hats, handbags, shoes, leggings, and tights. The leggings pictured above by Kova & T are a great example of how you can easily add a touch of lace to your look. Pair these leggings with booties, a short skirt with lots of volume, and several top layers for a girly yet edgy style.

With all of the great black lace pieces out there this fall, it's now proven that lace is no longer reserved for stuffy occasions. Get out there and try it! It's an easy way to look and feel glam.
