A trademark of Winter 2008 was an abundance of hardware, including studs and zippers. Winter is (sigh) not over, and this is a trend we'll likely be seeing well into spring. Designers are using studs in new ways, adding traditional punk and softer rounded studs to jackets and shoes. For more subtle edginess, zippers offer the same flash of grit and silver, and sometimes even add functionality.

Fingerless gloves are a staple for me - every year I get a $2 pair and snip off the tips for easier texting - but basic black gloves in general are a style classic. Another style classic: leather. So it's no shocker that black leather gloves will always be a staple. While you're (hopefully) resolving towards more sustainable style, consider a great pair of quality gloves. Those cotton drugstore gloves are convenient, but not exactly fashionable, and I'm always misplacing and replacing pairs. An awesome pair of leather gloves will not only serve you better in slushy wet weather, but are so stylish you won't let them out of your sight and lose them.

Classic shoes from my youth are all grown up with new textures, colors, and heights. These shoes are versatile enough to go from responsible-yet-trendy at the office to flirty and fun for a night out.
