Do-It-Yourself Beauty Recipes For Summer

Summer days put me in the most nostalgic, carefree mood. Even for those (like me) who are forever married to their beauty products, the summer is really no time to be fussing around with all the commercial beauty loot we’ve been collecting all year. In this hot, muggy Midwestern weather—I hear it is pretty warm across the entire US right now—I find myself wanting natural, bare-minimum body and skincare solutions that won’t leave my pores clogged or my skin begging for fresh summer air.

Below are some natural, cost-effective, D-I-Y skincare recipes that are simple enough to whip up yourself and are a real treat for your body! Most of these contain ingredients that can be found in your own kitchen.

Face & Lip Honey Scrub

Ingredients:

3 tbsp non-fat powdered milk
1 tbsp honey

Pour the powdered milk into a bowl then stir in the honey until it forms a paste. Wet your face and lips with warm water then gently exfoliate with your fingers (you could also use a baby toothbrush to exfoliate your lips with this solution). Rinse away, pat dry. Beautiful, glowing skin! Apply a light moisturizer such as jojoba oil if your skin feels tight or dry.

Brown Sugar Body Scrub

Ingredients:

1-1/2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup olive oil or canola oil

Pour the brown sugar into a bowl then add the olive or canola oil. Mix the sugar and oil together to form a paste. Tie up your hair then use the scrub to gently exfoliate and moisturize your body and limbs. It’s delicious!

Tropical Body Oil

Simple! All you need is a jar of coconut oil, which you can find at your local whole foods store. Exfoliate with the brown sugar body scrub above (or your own favorite scrub) and massage coconut oil into your skin, focusing on dry areas like knees and elbows. You can also scrunch just a bit into your hair for added shine, moisture, and a delicious fragrance for your hair.

If you have your own do-it-yourself skincare recipes, please share!
