I was actually thinking red too....

I would use gold tones for eye shadow and do the cat eye eyeliner--only on the top. No liner on the bottom!

I wore a red dress to a friend's wedding last year. =)
I kept my make up *very* simple, for two reasons...
1. It's a red dress! lol You're already going to have all kinds of attention.
2. It was a friend's wedding, not my own. I was a little apprehensive about wearing red to begin with, because I didn't want her to feel like I was competing with her on her big day. I asked, and she said it was fine, but I didn't want to go too over the top.
I agree with a vintage look, but I'd keep the colors simple. Nudes, earth tones and black for liner and mascara. Seeing a pic of your dress would help with more specifics. =) Maybe find pics of a similar dress in a similar color online and check out what the models are wearing for make up....?

Thank you for the advice....I never thought of just eyeliner, brilliant idea. I also like the suggestion of a shadow effect and the green ;-) I will start to practice!

I agree completely. Try for the simple liquid eyeliner. When you use a liquid eyeliner put a pencil eyeliner on first. This will help guide your brush when you're putting on the liquid. Also you could use a colored eyeliner, either wine or green would be best. Green because it's the compliment of red and will be really noticeable despite just being a little. Start with the colored eyeliner and put on a thick line on the upper lid near the lash line. Have whatever eyeshadow you already wanted on, maybe just a soft shimmer, be sure to put lightest colors near the corner of eye. When you get to the outside corner of your eye put some of the colored eyeliner on the bottom lashline. Don't go the whole way across just make it faint. Then on top of the colored eyeliner on the upper lid put on your liquid eyeliner. There you go! If you're feeling a little adventurous put on a red lip, if not, go for a lip color close to your natural lip color (lipstick) then a little bit of gloss or shimmer for that. The rest of your make up, totally up to you!

Have a great time at your friend's wedding!

I love red dresses! I think you should go with a fifties glam theme for your makeup with a nice nude base and a thick liquid eyeliner give the liner a slight wing at the end of your lid to make it more of a cateye if you want you can use a very light shimmery brown just in the crease of your eyelid for a shadowy effect on the eye and if you can pull off a red lipstick go for it, if not try another berry color that works for you.
