How do I get a difinitive answer on my skin tone?

skin tone.JPG

This pic is a bit overexposed but it does show my skin without makeup. I know that I'm pale, but I'm pretty sure that I have yellow undertones rather than pink/blue. Where can I get a bona fide skin tone analysis without spending a ton?

I've heard of the that line but never tried it. I've been planning to make the trek to the mall (closest Sephora) after Christmas. I'll have to try it out. Thanks, Jenny!

Hello Liz! I'm pale and blue-eyed with a hint of yellow to my skintone, too. I swear this is the hardest to match, since you're cool with a pinch of warm from the yellow. I've been searching for foundation FOR.EV.ER, and finally found my love match: MAKE UP FOR EVER. They make 25 shades, which is a huge range.

My MAKE UP FOR EVER match is 117 Marble (for light skin with yellow undertones). It's worth popping by a Sephora and playing around with the colors.

Wow, Suzanne, thanks. I think that I just "had my colors done" for free! I'll check out that site.

Hi Liz-
With your "Snow White" coloring, your porcelain skin, clear blue eyes and pink lips, you are cool - a 'winter" - which means you would look best in jewel tones - bright dark colors - black, ruby red, royal blue, emerald green, purple.....

Yes, bronze is pretty much the only color that I know looks good on me. Not sure about green, but I think violets are also good. But blue=BAD.

I'd say stay away from yellow. Bronzes and Greens would probably look good on you, as well violets. But you know... experiment and play around. Thats the best way to find out.

Interesting. I suspect that you're right about me being a neutral. Still not sure what colors to put on my face/body though. Sometimes I think that I look best with just lipgloss and dark brown mascara.

Keep in mind that you can also be a neutral (which is what it looks like to me). That means you have an even number of both yellow and pink undertones.

Thanks, Suze. I tried the quiz, and it told me that I was warm. But I wasn't really sure about how to answer some the questions, e.g., do I picture myself looking fabulous in bright yellow or orange?I really don't know. I'm inclined to say no, but that's probably due to the fact that my mother always told me not to wear those colors. My mom isn't exactly a style expert--she just has some set ideas. I also wasn't sure what looked better against my skin--silver or gold? I wonder if the sales people at Sephora can give that kind of personalized advice. I suppose that I could go to a few different makeup counters and get a concensus.

That's a really good question ... one I have trouble with too. So I poked around online and found a quiz that should help: Are Your Undertones Warm or Cool?

It told me I'm "cool" and I have to agree. Hope it works for you!

The reason I ask this question is that I'm never sure that I'm using the right colors on my face--or even what clothing colors look best on me.
