How Do You Do French Plats Yourself?

I'm really crap at doing my own hair is there any tips how to French plait your hair like this yourself?

I wish that I could help you here, but I've also been unsuccesful at creating this look. I can get the plait going in front for a little bit but it always ends up going backward.
