I'm looking for an affordable, -- under $10 -- natural mascara. My friend recommended clear mascara and I have yet to try it. Does it work? How does it compare to black mascara?

Clear mascara is the most do-nothing (read: waste your money on) cosmetic you can buy. It does nothing!!!
Most of us have lashes that become thinner and lighter in color at their tips, and any regular mascara will color your lash tips and this alone will make them look longer.
BUT
it's great for the brows !!! :) !!!
Just pencil or use a shadow in a shade that's a bit lighter than your brow hairs. I like those angular brushes and I wet my brown eye shadow with a little 50% or 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol. I like the soft look this gives. Then I use my clear mascara to coat, lift and set the brow hairs. I brush my brow hairs nearest the nose straight upward (!) and at the arch, about 45 degrees. Gives a really polished look.
Hope this helps.
I really dont see the point of clear mascara if im honest, it doesnt really flatter your eyes at all.
Clear mascara is designed to tame, shape and give a slightly darker (wet) look to your natural lashes. It doesn't enhance as much as most women want. A black or brown mascara will give you even more shape due to it's waxy texture; it will also make your eyes pop and add definition to your entire eye area.
Clear Mascara is gel based...think of it like when you put gel in your hair...it's cruchy, dark and wet looking but not totally defined. We use hair gel to tame, but we use a wax or pomade to shape...like black mascara does for lashes.
Mascara is an easy to use tool that completes a glam look or helps to complete a fresh wide awake face.
Go for black mascara, maybeline, almay, lo'real are all good choices for under $10. Read the benefits of each one and see what suits you best.
I have tried clear mascara and all it does is give your lashes a naturally wet look. Kind of glossy. It doesnt help with curling lengthening or volumizing. I pretty much use it when my brows are unrully...other than that, i am not a fan. I use browm mascara because i am fair skinned and i think that it looks more natural and less harsh on me.
I already have naturally long, thick, and dark lashes, and I use clear mascara to give them a glossy look. Other than that, it really doesn't do much. I mostly use it to groom my eyebrows. So I wouldn't exactly recommend it if yer looking for something to make yer eyes pop.
Cyssunshine, thanks but that doesn't help me very much. I'm wondering what clear mascara does for the lashes.
Natural Looking: Neutrogena makes a mascara called Clean Lash Tint....it gives you a slight bit of length and a darker lash....super natural! I have blonde lashes and this just gives me darker lashes(like I colored them).
Naturally Made: Aveda Mosscara is a mascara made with natural ingredients. It looks great also, but has a different smell from most mascaras(like all of Aveda's products do).
If you just want darker lashes you might think about going to a salon to have them colored.
