Included in my kit were packaged Exfoliator Cloths. Exfoliation is the most important step in a good self-tan and these babies are not messing around. I actually said "Ow" out loud the first time I rubbed one across my arm. These would be great for the roughest part of your body, but you'll need a gentler exfoliator for your face and probably everything else except your elbows, knees, and feet.

I tried out my Tan Towels over the course of 2-3 weeks, after showering and drying off thoroughly. The towels come in individual packs and were super easy to apply, much better than the spray bottles that shoot half the product onto your body and the other half onto the floor and walls, and better than the harsh gels I have to dilute with hand lotion so as not to turn completely orange. A few hours after my first usage, I had a glow so intense it surprised me. This product definitely takes less applications than most to apply and the color is only slightly more orange than a natural tan. Layered over an existing real tan, this would give a fantastic boost.
As time went on, however, I learned that Tan Towel carries the usual self-tanner downsides. The Tan Towel promises not to streak or to discolor knees and elbows. Well, they are right about not staining elbows... because the stuff won't even color elbows, apparently. After a few uses I noticed that my elbows were completely white in contrast with the rest of my arms. I'm sure this could be avoided by more exfoliation on that area and purposeful application to such spots, but it still made me realize that the product wasn't as infallible as I first thought. The same goes for streaking. A friend's review of the product said, "You can't apply too much, but you can miss spots," and this was very accurate. This is of course a human error, and my boyfriend is quick to laugh at me and point out the white lines on my arms are my own fault and not the company's. Nonetheless, this particular annoyance does hinder Tan Towel from standing out among the competition.
Overall, I love that Tan Towels are convenient and drip-free, but the price - $58 gives maybe as many applications as the L'oreal Sublime bottle sitting on my bathroom sink - is way too steep for what they are. If you're willing to pay sixty bucks for a tan, I recommend throwing in the towel on this product and instead buy a tanning package or a professional spray tan that is likely to be flawless.

so i woke up this morning and i noticed almost no color change at all and that it had an orangey look to it and i know its not because of any lotions because i dont use any at all.also i noticed i have that self tanner smell on my hands even though i washed my hands right after i applied. Needless to say this is being returned.
so i woke up this morning n im definitly disapointed its barely any color and it looks orange! Looks like I will be taking these back.
Hi,
I just tried tan towels tonight, I purchased a box of 5 tan towel plus full body applications for about 21 dollars at my local ulta store. I am suprised that you said you spent 58 dollars on the system but im guessing thats because it came with some extras rather then just the tan towels. I have noticed less then 2 hrs after applying the towels that my one leg is slighly darker then the other( i started at the legs and this was the first leg I applied it to). I'm curious if the reviewer had this same issue and after reading the review I'm a little afraid of turning orange. I would also love to know if you have done reviews on the Bare Minerals Faux Tan self tanner and what you think of it.
While "realist1" is clearly a Tan Towel product rep (or at least a misguided user), the review by Janine is absolutely correct. These tan towels are ridiculously expensive and work no differently or better than other self tanning products sold in stores. Like the review said, if you've got $60 to waste on self tanning, just go to a spray booth and you can probably get at least 2 spray sessions for that price, and actually look tan instead of orange like the tan towels make you look.
Hi....
I've been using the Tantowels for many years now (since high school and I'm 27 now).
I'm curious to see how you spent $58 on the Tantowel line. I think your review, yet fair based on your experience; defeats the beauty of the line- which is that anyone can try the product for just $2.50- not $58.
Also, since you seem to be a self proclaimed "self tanning expert", I would only hope that you explain the fundamental differences between self tanners you have used in the past in comparison to that of the Tantowel brand. (This would include that most of your self tanners have bronzers or dyes that create the "image" of being tan- whilst the Tantowel uses a pantented process and formula- by which a sugar molecule reacts with your skin's amino acids to create a "glow" that is a natural looking- Something I think you will find consistently agreed upon by loyal Tantowel customers as an unparalleled result, especially in such a price range.
My suggestion to anyone spending the time to read this, go try Tantowel out for yourself for under $3
This was a really nicely written review. I liked that you covered so many aspects of the product.
