Complete Guide on What to Wear to a Wedding – 3 Part Series, Part 3
This is the third segment in the 3 part series 'Complete Guide on What to Wear to Wedding.' This section offers ideas for dressing appropriately as a guest to a formal daytime wedding and formal evening wedding.
5. Formal Daytime Wedding
For any formal wedding, long dresses or fancy cocktail dresses are the best options. While most styles of cocktail dresses work for semi formal weddings, for formal weddings, have some fun and try more luxurious cocktail dresses in fine fabrics like satin and chiffon and with ornate detailing such as intricate beading or rhinestones. Diamonds and pearls are classier for formal daytime weddings as opposed to excessive fashion jewelry. Full length maxi dresses are also beautiful for formal daytime weddings.

6. Formal Evening Wedding
For formal evening weddings, full length gowns are the most suitable. Choose a gown more slender and form-fitting as opposed to the full skirt, princess like gowns that are at risk in competing with the bride. Also, though there are varying opinions on whether or not white is an appropriate color to wear to a wedding, a white evening gown will not be appropriate for a formal evening wedding. Any ensemble that implies bridal should be avoided unless you are the bride.

A good rule of thumb when it comes to dressing for a wedding: if you find yourself doubting a particular outfit, then move on. One of the worst feelings is spending the entire ceremony feeling insecure about how you look. Weddings are meant for celebrating and enjoying in the company of friends and families, not preoccupying yourself with thoughts of being dressed inappropriately. If an outfit gives you anxiety, then simply find another one. There are literally countless ensembles you can wear to a wedding. Don’t waste time stressing out about one.
And try not to get overwhelmed when shopping for wedding clothes. Keep in mind that the focus of the wedding is the bride and groom and what people will be looking at for most of the ceremony. While we all aim to look our best and don ourselves with clothes that let our personal styles shine, keep in mind what’s important when trying to find your perfect wedding attire—as long as you feel comfortable and you’re able to move freely, chat with other guests, take part in toasts, hug the bride and groom, and groove on the dance floor, then you know you’ve found your perfect match.
