Some months back, I wrote about Nintendo's new video game called Project Beauty that lets players give themselves virtual makeovers. This game features a scanning device that transfers digital images of the user's face onto a split screen, at which point the user's facial features and coloring are analyzed and different "looks" or makeup suggestions are displayed on one half of the screen. So of course, I want this game, and of course, it's sold in Japan only (for now: word is this game will be available in the U.S. in the near future).
Stateside, we may not have games available to us, but we can still give ourselves virtual makeovers. TheHairStyler allows consumers to virtually try on thousands of hairstyles after uploading a face photo to the site, while the similar DailyMakeover.com lets users try out celebrity hairstyles and makeup trends.
trendcentral is going so far as to count this digitally pretty revolution as a trend, declaring that as more consumers experience and become aware of these kinds of digital beauty services, which can ultimately save them time and money, they will expect their favorite beauty brands to utilize similar technology.
Sephora, are you listening?
