Ten things I need right now!

It's Fall! I love Fall. It's definitely my favorite time of year. Boots! Sweaters! Bonfires! Halloween! Spiced cider! Fall makeup collections!

This isn't just about the official Fall makeup trends, though - there are certain things I like about Autumn, and certain products that help me evoke that scrumptious seasonal mood. Sexy bronzes, rusts and oranges? Check. Pumpkin? Check! Spices? Double check!

I thought I'd share my personal top ten "musts" for Autumn, 2008. Wanna see? I'll do it in a Letterman-style countdown, but in no particular order...

10: I change my makeup in the Fall, so let's start with some great old favorites I always grab at this time of year. I'm talking about makeup that transcends trends. These are my true must-haves and the best news is: none of these are dreaded "Limited Editions."

Out of the kit come the following fabulous shadows: MAC Woodwinked is the perfect warm gold year-round but is especially ideal for Autumn makeup routines; Coppering, also by MAC, is the most stunning copper-rust shimmer and a must for blue-eyed girls or anyone who just likes a little extra oomph from time to time; my other MAC staple for this time of year is Sumptious Olive - ideal for a camouflaged version of the smoky eye and lovely with hazel eyes; shimmery shades of toast are definites: I grab Urban Decay Half-Baked and Twice Baked for a dependable but edgy brown-bronze-earthy look; and for that perfect extra punch I depend on Urban Decay Last Call, a sweet and deep plum.

As soon as the weather starts to turn, I pull out my favorite lip colors: MAC has a few that I can't live without including O and Sophisto, which I consder related versions of the same bronze-frosted plum (Sophisto is more sheer and glossy than O); Clinique's gloss-lipstick hybrid, Black Honey Almost Lipstick, is a definite for when I want a bit of deep color without a full-on lip.

Want to know what else I need right now (and to see swatches of the colors I just mentioned)? Keep reading!

9: Pumpkin pie is a scent that most of us immediately associate with Fall, right? Well, why not start our days off right with that spicy pumpkin scent? Philosophy's Pumpkin Spice Muffin is shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath all wrapped into one yummy package! Really - it's eerie how much this smells like a pumpkin spice baked good. Eerie.

8: Anyone who knows me knows this: I am addicted (ADDICTED!) to Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs. And each time the seasons change, we get new seasonal oils, which sends me and all of the other BPAL fanatics into a feeding frenzy. This Fall, I need a few Autumnal blends: Samhain 2008 (woods, spices, apple, and more seasonal goodies), Pumpkin II (musk, leather, tonka, teak, orange wood and opopponax), and from the Sleepy Hollow collection: The Goblin Rider ("wind-shipped, chilly night air, oppressive black pine, globs of dark opopponax, and bleak cedar, and distant, unreachable church incense") and Gun Powder ("carrot peelings, hay, chaff, molasses, maple oats, red apples, stable wood, and musk"). If you haven't tried Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, you really need to investigate. It's amazing.

7: Not a spicy sister? Maybe your skin is too sensitive? Maybe you prefer your spooky scents a little less seasonal in scent, if not in name? Try Lush's Ghost shower gel! It's shimmery and pretty and smells like rose and dove orchid. Ethereal beauty is yours!

6: Ah, Urban Decay... what are you doing to us!? If y'all are fans of UD but haven't seen the new Book of Shadows, you're about to flip your lids. Sixteen (!) eyeshadows, two brushes, a travel-size Primer Potion and the most amazing box you've seen (covered with pop-up butterflies, birds and other cuteness). Granted, the box is a little hard to get open, but I'm willing to put up with it for the gorgeousity inside!

The shades: Perversion (matte black), Last Call -see this list, #10! - (plum punch), Grifter (sheer lavender with lots of silver microglitter), Mayhem (deep purple), Baked (rich bronze), Smog (deep coppery bronze), Sidecar (bronze sparkle), Gridlock (medium brown), Shakedown (shimmering taupe), Roach (deep brown with reddish sheen), Scandal (peachy-pink), Midnight Cowboy (golden beige with gold glitter), Goddess (midnight blue with lots of electric blue microglitter), Shattered (bright green/blue shift), Absinthe (electric green), and Protest (dark green).

I will go on record with this statement: this is the most stunning collection of eye shadows I have ever seen in my beauty-addicted and beauty-addled life.

PS: Only available at Sephora!

5: Have you tried Kings and Queens from Korres? It's a great bath and body line, and I just got to test it recently. A-MAZ-ING. The shower gels are light and fresh, the body lotions are silky and smoothing, the body butters rich and thick, and the shimmering body lotions are divinely glowy! My Fall recommendations: items in the Caspar line which smell like myrrh , and the Nefertiti products which smell like honey. I had never smelled myrrh before this product testing, but now I want to smell like it all of the time, forever!

4: Fall clothes call for layering, right? But sometimes the layers are too warm - or is it that the weather is not quite cold enough? And don't get me started about the problem of jeans that ride too low for one's waistline! The following products are perfect for creating a light, layered look, for camoflaging muffin top, and for saving you in a pinch when your scoop-neck sweater takes too much of a scoop!

Miss Oops has created two tube-like products to save you in these critical fashion moments. The tube called Jaks slips over your waistband but under your top, giving the look of a lacy tank peeking out from under - but more importantly hiding your thong, hips, and extra donuts. The tube called Boob Tube is worth stashing in your desk or tote because its meant to glide on under your top, covering that extra cleavage that sometimes slips out mid-morning with that darn shirt you forget reveals more than you like! It's also beneficial for the light layered look without adding any bulk.

3: Have you tried the Urban Decay lipsticks, yet? Oh my...

Three formulas to make you smack your lips: semi-sheer shimmer, sheer cream, and full-coverage sheen. I love the formulas, the dagger on the end, and the sheer heft & weight of the case. These are very satisfying products all the way around.

My favorites so far are Apocalypse (blackberry sheer cream), Vinyl (plum semi-sheer shimmer) and Wicked (mauve sheer cream).

Hey - if you haven't peeped the UD holiday collection, just wait and see. They've got a great, sexy case to slip over your favorite UD lipstick!

2: OK, I think from this list it's completely clear that I associate Fall with the sense of smell. But you aren't the only thing that should smell good. What about your house!? Check out the Altru line of candles, gals and guys. They come in the most beautiful cardboard boxes decorated with geometric prints inspired by world travel. The candles themselves are seated in a sleek hammered copper, and they burn forever! I've tried Wellness, which is white clove and wild ginger, and Artistry, which is masala chai.

1: Let me set the scene- it's Fall. The air is crisp. The leaves swirl around you, landing gently at your feet. You're walking with your hunny. He leans in for a kiss....

Is your breath fresh? Is your lipgloss in place - but not too sticky? Are your teeth sexy and white?

If not, you need SexySmile, the best of the 2-in-1 lipgloss/toothwhiteners that I've tried. One end unscrews to give you a fresh-tasting tooth whitener made by dentist Pia Lieb. The other end unscrews to reveal a spectacularly-flavored and -scented lipgloss that's just the right pigmentation to make me happy. The color is buildable and not too sticky! The whitener can take you up to 12 shades whiter, which is fabulous. And unlike some of the other "similar" items I've seen from other brands, this one works, and it doesn't leak or cause a mess.

Try this product. You'll thank me.

So, my dears: what are your must-haves for Fall 2008? Are any of mine on your list? Want to point me towards something I haven't listed? Or have questions about my list? SPILL!

In the fall, my must haves are definitely scent-oriented as well. I switch to heavier perfume, and my favorite is Obsession. (I know, very old school but sometimes there are similar heavy-sweet-musky scents that I also gravitate toward like Avon's Imari Seducation.) I also do heavier eye make-up, especially in the gold, yellow, copper colors. I'm no brand loyalist with eyeshadow. I am also a huge fan of Philosophy's triple threat body wash in Pumpkin Spice. It makes me feel, mentally, warm and cozy. (I used to burn scented candles, but now that I have a cat and two little ones burning candles is a dangerous hobby.)
