There are many skin products on the market these days that address the sunspots, melasma and overall uneven skin tone issues more and more woman are facing every day. I recently tested two brightening skin care products and I’d love to share my results with you.

The two piece set includes the Brightening Anti-Aging Serum, which feels light on the skin and has a pearly look to it coming out of the bottle and on your skin. It gives your skin a pretty glow but not an overbearing disco-y type sparkle. Part two is the Concentrated Spot Treatment, which comes in a pen type applicator with a brush on the end. I have really had good luck with this spot treatment. It has made a marked difference in the melasma on my cheeks. I can really tell now that I have stopped applying self tanner to my face, which has been an uphill battle for me. Especially in the summertime I like to wake up with a little color on my face and self tanner is an effective way to get that boost. But applying self tanner also exacerbates melasma, making the dark patches look darker. So now that I have gone into super overdrive with my skin care (I’ve always been good but now I’m getting monthly facials on top of everything else I already do) I have decided that a more even-toned complexion is more important to me and I just apply a bit of powder to give me a more tanned look. And FYI: I’ve seen plenty of candid photos of Courteney Cox (Kinerase spokeswoman) and while she has nice skin, it is most certainly not the wrinkle free, perfect skin you see her sporting in the Kinerase ads. There was a whole lotta Photoshopping going on there. I figure everyone knows this already, but it’s just a little reminder that no face product is going to give you the skin that retouchers can.
Clinique guiding dermatologist Dr. Orentreich says, “When skin is more even-toned, you look younger.” I’ve read this and heard it on other commercials for skin care too, that brown spots and uneven skin tone age you, in the eyes of others, moreso than wrinkles. I tried the Even Better Skin Tone Corrector and I did see an improvement in the tone and texture of my skin. The pump delivery system squirts out the right amount too, which is oh so nice.
I would recommend either of these products if you have melasma or any dark areas or spots on your face you are looking to lighten. Melasma is often seen as a result of taking birth control and/or getting pregnant. Sun exposure contributes to melasma too, so be sure you wear sunscreen daily to prevent getting it or to prevent it from getting worse if you are already experiencing it. There is constant talk about sunscreen on this site and there is a reason for our obsession with it. It can help keep you alive and looking sassy for many years to come!!
Great article! I always love hearing about new facial products I can try.
