How to Wear Pastel Eyeshadow

Pulling off pastel eyeshadow may seem unsettling, but fear not! The key is to balance your pastel eyeshadow colors with browns and other neutrals if necessary. Also, remember to apply mascara and/or eyeliner to avoid that "clown" look that most girls are afraid of when attempting to wear pastel eyeshadows.

If you have fair to olive skin with blond hair, choose pastel shades with blue undertones such as lilacs, pastel blues, and even pastel greens. If you have dark hair and/or dark eyes, pastel pink would work as well. If desired, balance out your pastel eyes with a brown eyeshadow in the crease to even out the look. With fair to olive skin, apply brown or brown-black eyeliner and a matching shade of mascara to complete this pastel eye look. Black eyeliner or mascara may be too harsh for fair skin sporting pastel eyeshadows.

Dark skin does well to add a "pop" of pastel color to the lids below the crease. Good pastel eyeshadow shades for dark skin include pastel blues and pastel greens. In order to capture the "trueness" of these shades, apply an eyeshadow base to the lids such as Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. After applying your chosen pastel eye color, finish with a thin line of black eyeliner pencil on your bottom lash line OR a winged liquid eyeliner on the top lid, if you can apply liquid eyeliner with ease. Add a couple coats of black mascara or even false eyelashes, as Beyonce models here.

Warm up cheeks with a blueish rose blush such as MAC Beauty Powder Blush in Feeling, which will suit nearly all skin tones. A warm rose lipstick such as Lancôme Color Design Lipstick in Vintage Rose will accompany pastel eyeshadow well.
