Are you aware of the glam, black lip color trend for fall 2008? I haven’t seen it trickle down to street-level outside of local goth makeup lovers (I would say goth makeup muses channeled black lip color first before it took the high fashion world by storm this season). When I posted about Lancôme's new, limited edition Piha Black Color Fever lip gloss on my beauty blog last month, Google searches brought in many beauty addicts that wanted to get their hands on this new, sheer black lip gloss.

Lancôme Piha Black Color Fever lip gloss was designed by Lancôme’s artistic director of makeup, Aaron de May, who says that you can wear Piha Black gloss alone or over another lip color, or even as an eye gloss. Interesting. Piha Black lip gloss retailed alongside Color Fever Piha Red Lipstick in a set for $48. The set was only available on lancome-usa.com and at the 59th Street Bloomingdale's location in New York City, but it appears to have sold out.

Following in Lancôme’s footsteps is YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) makeup line’s new limited edition lip gloss, PUR Black. YSL PUR Black lip gloss, $28, is an online-exclusive shade that is similar to Lancôme’s sparkly Piha Black gloss, but YSL’s PUR Black is sparkle-free. Both black lip gloss shades are sheer, but still leave an intense look on the lips. So, the shades are less dramatic and opaque than black lipstick, but still very edgy.

If curiosity gets the most of me and I nab one of these glosses from Lancôme or YSL (via eBay most likely, seeing as these are limited edition items) I will surely take pictures and post them to my Sparkle*Shelf profile. In the meantime, share with us: Would you wear black lip gloss?
