How did you get your start in the industry?

I interned at CosmoGirl and one of the editors set me up with a fashion stylist that needed an assistant.

Who is your dream client and why?

The entire cast of Gossip Girl. The clothing and characters are so colorful and kitschy. I would love to do the wardrobe for just one episode!

Without naming names, tell us about your nightmare client.

Honestly, I have never really had one. A popular R&B Pop star showed up to a shoot about 4 hours late once, but was very apologetic when he/she showed.

What's your favorite trend this season?

I love the big chunky layered on jewelry! I LOVE accessories b/c they can completely give your outfit a new personality!

What 3 beauty or fashion mistakes do women commonly make?

  1. Too tight clothing - many times women wear clothing a size too small b/c they don't want to give into the bigger size. It is so silly b/c when clothing fits correctly you look 10 pounds thinner! Just get the size that you truly are!

  2. Too much jewelry - You always want to make sure that you don't overdo it. For example, if you are layering several necklaces, don't wear huge hoops. With accessories, always pick one piece that you want to stand out, not 3.

  3. Bad fitting jeans - Jeans look good on everyone, no matter what your size. Always make sure that your jeans are fitted just right. For example - straight leg jeans are great for women who need curves and bootleg jeans are great for women with curves. Stay away from mom jeans (high waisted and tapered on the bottom), they don't look good on anyone and will age you 10 years!

Can you share some of your secrets for looking good on camera?

When you are going to appear on camera I think the biggest concern is how to look your thinnest.

  1. Always wear a dark solid color (ie: black, navy, chocolate brown, etc.) - Dark colors will always make you look the slimmest.

  2. Sit up straight - when you slouch it tends to make you look heavier

  3. Draw attention to your eyes by using eyeliner and mascara. This will brighten up your entire face.

What are 3 things women can do to update their look on the cheap?

  1. Jewelry - stores like H&M, Joyce Leslie, Kohl's, etc all have great jewelry for cheap. Trendy jewelry is a great way to update your wardrobe!

  2. Belts - again you don't have to spend a lot. Belts (wide or thin) are a great way to update your wardrobe and show off your waist. They look fabulous with over-sized shirts, dresses and even jackets!

  3. Jackets/Coats - Jackets and coats are a great way to update your look for the season. Blazers and trench coats are a sure thing. The Gap and Limited are great places to search for these items.

What's the most surprising thing you've learned in your profession so far?

People in the fashion industry are known to be rude and snobby. While I have come across some, most people are really willing to help you get ahead. If you ask for help or connections, you'd be surprised how many people want you to succeed.

If you had to choose another profession, what would it be and why?

A vet, hands down! I absolutely LOVE dogs and can't think of anything that would make me happier! As a kid all I wanted was to work with animals.

Any words of wisdom for those trying to break into your profession?

  1. Have Patience - it takes time to work your way up. You have to pay your dues like everyone else. Don't expect to make it over night.

  2. Respect - respect and learn from people who have made it in your field. If you intern for or get an entry level job with a boss who is "difficult," trust me, it will help you in the long run. DON'T GIVE UP!

  3. Internship, Internship, Internship - this is the most important thing you can do. Whether you're in college or want to change careers, an internship will help you tremendously!
