How to Do Emo Make-up
The whole “emo” phenomenon is one that I don’t quite understand, but I see the hair and makeup and can’t help but think it’s amazing. Misshapen hairstyles, jet black hair and eye liner. I love it, I do. I was in high school when the emo wave of hair and makeup went mainstream and was bit by the bug of trendiness to emulate this dark, demure look. “Emo makeup” really takes smoky eyes to the nth power, and any girl who’s daring enough can look totally glammed out with an intense smoky eye. It’s time to shed some light on how to get this dark, “depressed” makeup look – but give it a more feminine spin and a bit less gloom...
How to Do Emo Makeup
You will need black liquid eyeliner, a black kohl eyeliner pencil, black or very dark eyeshadow, a colored eyeshadow of your choice (my recommendations below), a sponge-tipped eyeshadow applicator, and any extras of your choice to make this look rock.
- Using a black kohl eyeliner pencil, thickly line your bottom lash line. You don’t need to make the line super-thick, just thick enough to smudge. Extend the line out straight and up away from your eye just as far as you want your smoky eye to extend.
- Take your black liquid eyeliner and trace a curved line right above your eye crease, following the shape of your crease. This line doesn’t need to be too perfect or neat. Pulling the line down, stop where the lower eyeliner ended.
- Using a sponge-tipped eyeshadow applicator, begin to pack black or very dark eyeshadow on your eyelid below the eyeliner. Fill this entire area with eyeshadow. Line your upper lash line with the black kohl liner. Also, blend some eyeshadow on your upper and lower lash lines to smudge and set the lines there.
- Sweep a magenta, deep blue, olive, or gold eyeshadow beginning at the edge of the black smoke and stopping just below your brow bone. Blend away any harsh lines. Apply black eyeshadow to your eyelashes in a sweeping motion to coat your lashes with eyeshadow powder. This thickens the lashes. Apply a volumizing mascara.
- To make this look balanced and super-feminine, apply a sheer, frosty pink or nude lip gloss. To make the look more vamp-y, choose a crimson- or wine-colored lip stain.
- Optionally: Brush your eyebrows into place with a clean mascara wand and set with Vaseline or Rosebud Salve. Highlight the browbone with a shimmery bone-colored eyeshadow. Apply full, long false lashes for an ultra-vamp look.

That is just wayyyyyy to much work. Can you imagine how much eye-makeup remover you'd have to go through with that look? But it is an interesting look if you can rock it. :-)

Really all you need is a black kohl eyeliner and a sharpener, but the liquid helps. This look goes well with bright eyeshadows (think highlighter colours) Definately wouldn't wear dark lipstick if you want to be "emo"

Wll i think that the way some people wears thier eyeliner is very pretty, but some of these girls wear to pale of makeup with it. Word to the wise any kind of makeup with alot of eyeliner involved looks a lot better with tan makeup and skin. Being pale isnt pretty and anyone who thinks it is is stupid. I think you have problems deeper than skin-deep that you should worry about instead *rolleyes* Have fun with that skin cancer and alligator skin from tanning when you're 45 - you'll look thirty years older than you really are. I started acting emo a year ago,when my mom started dening me to hang with my friends.I did the oppsite of wat she wanted. My friends in grade 6 hates me know becasue i have turned emo. And i have started to hang with the grade 7. I hate my mom she always makes me feel use less but my friends love me and she wonders why i have gone emo and dont spend time with her.....I love emos the guys are smoking

Dear Rebal, If you're 12 or 13, you'll probably have found a different 'look' by this time next week. All this fuss about people hating you for 'trunning' (it's turning by the way) makes it sound like you've given them the plague and not a probably dire new makeup look. Heck, you probably don't even know the difference between Goth and Emo. Instead of wigging out over your latest beauty fad, why not pay more attention to your studies and less to the whimsical opinions of other barely adolescent teens. To the author of this piece, it's well written, enthusiastic and clearly understandable. A big hat's off to a nice little helping hand to anyone wanting to dabble in a more dramatic look.

I am 13 years old and i am an emo. It doesnt matter how old you are, as long as you are confident in yourself. I didnt try to be emo, i just became an emo over time. If you are still young like me it takes time for some parents to come to terms with you being an emo. I have been an emo for 6months now and my parents still dont like me being an emo and they try to change me, but jst hold your head high and say this is who i am and who i want to be

That was some really awesome instructions , they were simple with a wonderful result . And for all you people out there calling yourselves "emo" you`re just buying into society`s need to label everyone . "Emo" actually means emotionally challenged , so you can like the whole "emo" style , but it is unlikely you actually are one . And calling yourself that makes you a poser , because no one calls themselves "emo" willingly .
does anyone else on here find it sad that there are all there sixth graders and 12 and 13 year old girls that are depressed and are "trying to be themselves"...? if they want to be themselves, they should try a makeup that shows them selves, a more natural one that compliments their features. a more intense makeup like this (which is pretty cool by the way! great instruction!) should wait until you're older, and more sure of who you are and if thats the way you want to live your life. trust me. when your still in jr. high, style changes. people change. and your opinion on beauty will change.

This is really good instructions(: And to everyone who says that 12 and 13 year olds are to young for this, just get over yourself. Im 13 and yeah my parents hate the way i dress but who cares. Stop labeling yourself "emo", The makeup and clothes are just to express who we are through what we wear cause most people dont stand aroung long enough to figure out who we really are. I was emo at eleven, but got over it with some adult help, but at thirteen I'm still keeping the look because it's a part of, my history of who I am. I'm emotionally tied to my black and red arm warmers, my neon bracelets, my canvas peace chunky bracelets. My skinny jeans(mosly black) and my purple and black Pastry shoes. The tight, black tops with Sum 41, My Chemical Romance, and old school Journey logos on them. My hair dye and slashed bangs and my lip pierced with a little diamond stud. Mostly to the old, torn, beaten up white canvas belt with emo skulls and lightening bolts in red and black. My anklets and neon stuff...Emo doesn't always mean emotionally scarred, just different

exactly! jr high is a super awkward time and is almost impossible to discover who you are during it because kids are crazy judgemental and really mean. its just cuz its the awkward stages in life and so it will change.

so what i got from this was if you dont dress like an emo, youre automatically a prep, and a slut, and definately not an individual. because apparently the only way to be an individual is to dress like, well, "emo"...like the rest of the "individualists". get over yourselves. ppl dont judge how you look, they judge your attitude, and if you think anyone who isnt you is a slut, fake, prep whatever, then youre the one who can fuck yourself for judging. ps- im not an emo or a prep...so what the hell am i? i guess i dont exist.

Um i do have the emo style also, um I do cut, to the point I had to go to the hospital, but I try not the like throw it out for like ppl the feel bad...Um I meam, its pretty obvious to ppl about what I like and how I feel.
