Cover Story: Mary Kate Olsen in Elle Magazine
My collection of Nylon mags is overflowing from the cabinet under my bathroom sink. My new favorite InStyle is currently at my feet. I will read any fashion rag sitting around my manicurist's studio, but when it comes to spending my money - money that could be put to good use buying, I dunno, Diet Coke and black nail polish - I'm picky. Elle magazine isn't one I'm usually willing to blow four dollars on, but I did have to check out Elle online to read up on Mary-Kate Olsen . Although I'm partial to Ashley (doesn't everyone have a favorite twin?), there is no arguing that Mary-Kate has some of the best style in the public eye, no matter how you feel about hobo chic.
From the article: “Mary-Kate has an innate sense of style that follows no rules,” designer Giambattista Valli says. “Her personal style surpasses fashion. I’d like to design a couture gown for her that she can wear then cut into a minidress or a fantastic sleeping bag.”

Says MK about fashion, "It’s sort of like an art. It can change your mood or the way that people are attracted to you.”
Although this article takes Miss Olsen more seriously than I feel is warranted (Does she have a Noble or Pulitzer prize I'm unaware of? 'Cause that's the tone I'm getting from the descriptions of her style), it's a pretty read and I've already downloaded photos from the shoot as wallpaper for my BlackBerry.
Check out Elle Online for a video from the set and MK's style timeline, and pick up the July 2008 issue of Elle for the full story.

I really like her outfit in the second picture.
Why not read magazines online? It saves paper, the environment and money. My blog post on Elle Hong Kong may interest readers, too: http://sparkleshelf.com/wardrobe/elle-sells-hong-kong
