How To Keep Your Skin Youthful

Don't wait until you are older to start taking proper care of your skin! Use these tips on how to keep your skin youthful and you'll be happy that you started sooner than later.

You know the saying that you don't know what you've got until it's gone? That goes for your skin too. As we get older, all the years of stress, pollution and late nights definitely start to take a toll on our skin. Start treating it right now, while it's still in good condition, and you will be thanking yourself for years down the road.

Did you gals hear the rumor about Angelina Jolie being into La Prairie's The Caviar Collection for its anti-aging properties? Prices for the skin care line are well over $100 per item. In fact, they released a deluxe size of one of their best selling creams that retails for around $900. Just imagine how much money all of Hollywood is spending on Botox injections each year. Think of how much money our own mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and friends are spending on anti-aging skin care each year.

The lesson that they can pass on to us is a very important one:  that prevention is key when it comes to skin care. With a few easy steps that you can incorporate into your skin care routine, it's easy to learn how to keep your skin youthful.

1. Moisturize. A lot. I use a general facial moisturizer morning and night, as well as an eye cream. On days when I'm doing nothing but sitting around in my sweats, I make sure to re-apply my moisturizer multiple times throughout the day. For an eye cream, I think it's best to start using an anti-wrinkle and firming cream years before you need it.

2. Sunscreen. Wear it daily. Use it on your face, ears, neck, and chest. Not only will this help prevent fine lines, but it will also help prevent freckles. You can pick up lotion formulas that won't clog your skin at drustores. For those of us who have a hard time with them check out your local cosmetics store, like Sephora, for powder formulas.

3. Stay hydrated. Drinking more water is the one thing that you can do to benefit every single part of your body. It'll keep your skin lush and glowing. If you can't handle plain water, add a splash of fruit juice or try herbal tea.

4. Wash at night. Washing your face at night is especially important because it removes all the pollution and grime you're exposed to all day long. Start by removing your eye makeup with a gentle oil-free remover, then cleanse and moisturize.

5. Be regular. Find a regular skin care regimen is important. Find what products work best for your skin and stick to them religiously. This will give you gorgeous skin both now and later.

We all read the articles in beauty and fashion magazines about the latest "amazing" eye creams, the latest surgery fad.... Things that people are spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on in an effort to look younger. Growing up around a bombardment of these stories and advertisements, I decided that it's best to be preventative instead of trying to find a cure-all years down the line. As a result, most people guess that my 25-year-old self is 19 or 20.

Trust me, taking care of your skin now makes a huge difference. You'll be glad that you did.
