Be Prepared. Be VERY Prepared

I have a serious question for all the ladies out there:  How much makeup do you have with you at this very minute?

("We're ready to load your makeup bag into your purse, Jenny!")

This is obviously assuming you're not at home (because for me, "Buckets of it" would be the answer).  I'm talking about when you leave the house and head for work or school: How much makeup do you take for on-the-go use?

Here's why I ask: I was about five minutes into my Monday Morning Routine - surfin' the web, poking through the Inbox, and generally trying to perk up and get started - when my coworker came over to my desk in a panic.  Owning to a contact malfunction, she had rubbed and smudged off most of her mascara on one eye, and needed emergency reapplication.  Did I have any she could borrow?

"Sure," I said, and passed over my makeup bag.  When she came back ten minutes later, she reverently placed the bag on my desk with a flourish and said, "The contents of this bag have changed my entire opinion about you."

"What?"

Giving the bag a little pat, "You," she said, "Are bordering on Diva with a capital D."

Turns out she thinks it's absurd/hilarious/handy/ridiculous that I carry more than just the average gloss and powder.  I have - and carry daily - an eyelash curler, mascara, eye cream, whatever shadow/lipstick/eyeliner colors I'm wearing that day (plus an emergency black liner just in case I get invited someplace fancy after work), along with an eyebrow gel, pressed powder, primer, foundation, and concealer.  I also have a full-sized tube of Neutrogena sunblock (hey, if it came in travel sized, I'd do that instead).  Oh, and a handful of cotton swabs, a brush, hair bands, plus my newly purchased Daisy Purse Spray.

My makeup bag is not only heavy, but dictates the size of purse I'm able to buy.

I'm having a moment of ok maybe she's right  as I type this, but in my defense, I'm a by train & by foot commuter.  Which means I've left the house looking fab plenty of times, only to get so rained on, wind-whipped, or sweaty by the time I get to work that I've got to spend ten minutes in the john re-doing all my hard work.  And, there's no zipping home and freshening up after work if I go out after hours.  So just like the Boy Scouts, I've learned to be prepared.

On the plus side, I could quite literally remove my entire face of makeup and redo all of it.  On the negative side...I'm probably headed for back pain.

Is this weird?

You're a great writer.

I don't think you're a diva..I think you're well prepared like you said and had it not been for your handy dandy make-up bag, I assume she would've had a very bad day w/o that other eye being all done up. I mean, I walk around with my sanitizer, my comb, lip gloss, a washcloth and scrub on the days when I'm at work [Starbucks] for too long. Some call me prissy but then that makes me wonder what they think of themselves. Why can't we just be cute?! lol

i walk everywhere, so i carry next to nothing. which usually means that unlike you, i'm ill prepared to touch up the rained-on, wind-whipped, sweaty mess at any given point of the day. doesn't that just paint a pretty picture?

Oh man, mrswhite...that made me realize I NEED clear nail polish, too!

I carry lipgloss. On my keychain. I may occasionally toss a few more in my bag. Once I put on make-up for the day, that's it. I don't do the re-applying thing, and hate compact powder on my face. I know, I'm a weird beauty addict who keeps her addictions in her bathroom and under her bed.

I need to seriously down-grade. I'm ashamed of myself. I had to move up to a bigger purse to carry it all. Sad.

I actually don't have a ton in my purse because I have so much other crap. However, I did realize that I am walking around with three different lip balms. None that have color. I have a tube of red lipstick just in case. When I used to work in the magazine world, I'd carry around the whole kit and kaboodle--mascara, powder, eyeliner, curler, clear nail polish, etc....

lol I loved this article. No, you are definitely not weird. While I've cut back on carrying most of my makeup collection with me I carry a lot of stuff in car for emergencies. ie; hairbrush, body sprays, eyeliners, mascaras, hairspray, etc. I don't live in a fast city paced area so get around mostly by my car...however...if I was a train and by foot commuter like you...hell yes...I'd have the same issue as you.

I don't think it makes you a diva like your co-worker said it just makes you well prepared!!
