With all the talk about detoxing your body, inside and out, did you know you could do the same thing for your hair? Clarifying shampoos, sometimes called detoxing or chelating shampoos, remove buildup of hair products, chlorine and environmental impurities. I especially loathe environmental impurities.
These shampoos work wonders in eliminating build up from hair products including mousse, gel, various serums and leave-in conditioners. While hair products help get your hair looking the way you want it to, they can also cling to your hair shaft and produce dull, lackluster strands. Hairsprays and any wax-based hair products can easily build up residue and steal your glossy headed thunder – we don’t want that, now do we?
Clarifying shampoos contain ingredients to dissolve all the layers of hair products so you can start over again with deep cleansed hair.
Phyto Phytoneutre Rebalancing Cream Shampoo is a great choice to bring back shine and thoroughly cleanse hair and scalp.
Speaking of starting over, professional stylists often use chelating shampoos or treatments prior to chemical services, as color, perms and even straighteners take better to hair that is devoid of build up. In-salon treatments (often paired with a conditioner afterward) run about $25-45. If you are a DIY type who does your own hair color at home, certainly use a clarifying shampoo before applying your next color treatment.

If you have an oily scalp, like I do, a once-a-week use of a detox shampoo will help rid your scalp and hair of excess oil. Here in the South we have hot, humid summers, in the 90s practically every day and my scalp sweats in the stifling heat. I use both high and lower end clarifying shampoos and get good results with each one.
Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo has been around forever, is very effective and is affordably priced. I also love
Ojon Detox Recovery Cleanser with its hydrating ojon oil in the formula to insure hair doesn’t dry out while undergoing the clarifying process.

Summertime fun in the water and sun requires special treatment for your hair. Chlorine and salt can wreak hair havoc if you are not wearing one of those oh-so-stylish swim caps on a regular basis.
Terax Latte Clarifying Shampoo removes chlorine and salt buildup from hair while keeping it soft with added silk proteins. Frequent swimmers should deep condition at least once a week, too, to keep hair in optimum condition.
While you might think the last thing you need in your shower is another bottle of something to use on your face/head/body, a clarifying shampoo is truly a must have. Use it once a week and see the difference getting rid of all sorts of build up can make in your glorious locks. Seeing is believing, trust me.
It doesn't get it sparkling but it is really good at breaking up the gunky, soapy residue.
Good article!! I love using clarifying shampoo every so often...this article reminded me to go buy some. After a wash with it my hair feels so clean and healthy.
I use suave too! my hair is a frying pan, and I sometimes have to use it twice a week just to get all the gunk and oil out of my hair. Been itching to use neutrogena - will try it out this weekend!
How positively scientific!
I use cheap clarifying shampoo (a.k.a. Suave) to sometimes clean my bathtub. It doesn't get it sparkling but it is really good at breaking up the gunky, soapy residue.
