DIY Bangs - Ruining All My Stylist's Hard Work

Last week, I had a mini-unveiling of my new 'do - or what I'm calling The [Blond] Cleopatra. Too bad this style doesn't come with her mob of servants, though, because it's been less than a week and my bangs are already just a hair (oh ha!) past the need-a-trim zone.

If this cut requires weekly visits to the stylist, you can all start the countdown on my grow-out because that is not happening.  Before I toss in the shampoo towel, though, I'm trying the following tricks from thebeautybunny.com

1. Pull your bangs into a triangle. Make sure that it’s not too thick, or too thin, and that you only part off what is indeed your bangs. Trim them to the length that you want them. It’s best to only trim about ¼” just to be sure you don’t cut off too much.

2. Let your bangs fall naturally and brush them the way you want them. Make sure they look even and clean up any extra-long pieces you may have missed.

TIP: When trimming, try cutting in an upward direction. It will ensure that even if the cut is uneven, it will be less noticeable and will give you a ridged, natural look without cut lines.

My results when I followed this step by step?  Pretty good for  a novice who needs a straight line in order to really Walk Like An Egyptian.  But the real tip-gem here is cutting with scissors pointing up - I was able to "absorb" a few uneven and sketchy sections with this trick.

Lucky for this haircut, I can DIY the bangs at home.  Otherwise, it would have been the RIP haircut.

you're like the Braveheart of at home haircuts. Just thinking about it makes me want to break open that emergency bottle of vodka.

I'm terrified to cut my hair in general. It's finally at the length I want it (past the bra line almost to the small of the back) I'm in desperate need of a trim, but whatever, my hair is long enough and now heavy enough that its not so much curly as...mermaid wavey. However, I'm in the mood for a change, so if anyone has ideas for us round-faced broads, let a sister know.

I have to say, the first fringe-trim I gave myself was AWFUL. Looked like I did it with a Flow-Bee. But the pointing-scissors-upward trick is really a true miracle for "blending away" the booboos.

Eeeeeeeekajsdf I am sooo scared to cut my own bangs!!! You brave thing you. I refuse to grown mine out, but they are a pain in the neck to maintain! Sigh, the cost of beauty.
